Can a firewire socket on a camcorder be repaired?
Plugged in the wrong connector into the DV socket and now the camera is not detected, I think I have damaged ther socket HELP!!!
It really depends on a couple things.
If the damaged socket has shorted something on the board the board will likely need to be replaced. If the manufacturer sells the socket separately (a repair facility should be able to find out without too much difficulty) then they could replace just the connector. Although, most manufacturers have seemed to shy away from producing components for repair and have opted to instead recommend the whole board be replaced.
You could get lucky and have a camera that has a board that just does the communicating part and the board could be cheap.
I would venture to guess, however, that the repair charges could be close to $200. I'm only guessing tho.
